Role Overview
An early-stage AI technology company is seeking a Head of Product to define product strategy and lead the development of an AI-native geospatial intelligence platform. This is a zero-to-one leadership opportunity for an experienced product professional who can translate complex AI, spatial data, and customer problems into scalable products with clear commercial value.
Working directly with the founders, engineering team, and early customers, the Head of Product will establish product direction, validate high-value use cases, and build a disciplined discovery and delivery process. The role requires strong technical judgment, exceptional customer insight, and the ability to turn ambiguous opportunities into products customers rely on.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy: Define the product vision, roadmap, and priorities based on customer needs, market opportunities, technical feasibility, and business objectives.

Customer Discovery: Engage prospective customers, design partners, and users to uncover critical problems, validate assumptions, and identify high-impact use cases.

Product Development: Partner closely with engineering from problem definition through prototyping, evaluation, and deployment, making informed trade-offs as the product evolves.

Platform Scalability: Develop reusable product frameworks that address common geospatial intelligence needs across industries without relying on isolated, customer-specific solutions.

AI Product Experience: Design intuitive workflows and interfaces that make advanced AI capabilities, satellite imagery, remote-sensing data, and spatial analysis accessible to users.

Prioritization and Execution: Establish clear decision-making processes, balance short-term customer needs with long-term platform development, and maintain focus on the highest-value initiatives.

Product Analytics: Build feedback loops using customer conversations, product usage, experimentation, and telemetry to guide continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Leadership: Align founders, engineers, and customers around product objectives, ensuring rapid execution and measurable customer value.

Required Qualifications
6+ years of professional product management experience, including delivering technically sophisticated products from concept to customer adoption.

Demonstrated zero-to-one product experience in an early-stage startup or a highly autonomous product organization.

Strong technical fluency across AI systems, APIs, data infrastructure, model capabilities, latency, reliability, and software architecture.

Proven ability to translate complex customer problems into clear product requirements, prototypes, and scalable solutions.

Strong customer discovery skills, including identifying underlying needs, validating demand, and distinguishing urgent problems from lower-priority requests.

Sound judgment balancing user experience, technical constraints, commercial opportunities, and development priorities.

Meaningful experience exploring or building with modern AI systems, with a clear understanding of their practical product applications.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working closely with engineering teams and early customers.

Willingness to work full-time on-site in San Francisco, California.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with geospatial technology, geographic information systems (GIS), satellite imagery, remote sensing, or Earth observation.

Product leadership experience in AI/ML platforms, AI-native applications, developer tools, data infrastructure, or scientific software.

Familiarity with industries that depend on physical-world intelligence, including defense, climate, energy, logistics, insurance, and agriculture.

Experience in forward-deployed product roles or environments requiring intensive customer discovery and rapid iteration.

Compensation
Annual base salary of $175,000–$300,000.

Equity participation of 0.5%–2%.

Work Arrangement
Full-time, on-site position based in San Francisco, California. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What this role involves

This role is best suited to someone who can shape product direction in an early-stage, technically complex environment and turn ambiguous customer needs into a focused roadmap. You may want to emphasize experience leading zero-to-one products, working closely with engineers and founders, and making practical trade-offs between customer requests, technical feasibility, and long-term platform value.

Because the product is AI- and geospatially oriented, it would help to show how you have translated advanced technology into clear workflows, prototypes, and products that users can adopt. Examples of discovery, prioritization, and measurable customer outcomes will likely be especially relevant.

Skills and experience to demonstrate

Highlight evidence of technically sophisticated product management, especially where you have worked across AI systems, APIs, data infrastructure, reliability, and product analytics. If you have experience with geospatial data, satellite imagery, GIS, remote sensing, or adjacent domains, present it as a strong advantage rather than a strict necessity.

You could also foreground customer discovery, cross-functional leadership, and strong judgment in balancing user experience, commercial opportunity, and delivery speed. Experience in AI-native platforms, developer tools, data products, or forward-deployed product work may help show strong fit.

Preparing your application

For your application materials, use concise examples that show a problem you uncovered, how you validated it with customers, what product decision you made, and what changed as a result. A short case-study format can work well if it shows both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

In interviews, prepare to discuss how you would structure discovery, choose early use cases, and build reusable product patterns instead of one-off solutions. It may also help to be ready with examples of working through ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, and using telemetry or customer feedback to improve the product.

Questions for the recruiter

You may want to ask how the team is currently validating use cases, which customer segments are most important early on, and what signals define product-market fit for this platform. It can also be useful to ask how product decisions are shared between founders, engineering, and customers.

Other helpful questions include how the company balances custom requests against a reusable platform, what kinds of telemetry or feedback loops are already in place, and how the product team partners with engineering from prototype to deployment.
